Olympic Marathon Silver Medal - Trained for in Coventry. Won in Tokyo

In October 1964, Basil Heatley won an Olympic Marathon silver medal in Tokyo. The medal is pictured below.
A member of Coventry Godiva Harriers, Basil Heatley grew up on a farm on the outskirts of Coventry and worked and trained in the city. His running acted as an inspiration to a generation of distance runners, helping to lay the foundation for Coventry to become a hot-bed of distance running in the 60s, 70s and beyond.
