Warwick University Cross Country Relays - 29th October 2011

Those who ran in these relays last year spoke of them in glowing terms and it is a great initiative that should be supported by local runners. Also, for club runners, the date makes it a perfect warm-up for the Birmingham League, which starts two weeks later.

Officially titled Brose Warwick Relays, the course is 3.3km multi-terrain route around Warwick University playing fields and mens (4 to count), womens (3 to count) and mixed (4 to count) teams are welcome. Alternatively, just turn up as an individual and be assigned a team.

Full details and entry are available on the excellent event website:

WHEELCHAIR RACING @ UNIVERSITY OF WARWICK

As part of the ‘McCain University of Warwick Endurance Academy’ wheelchair racing opportunities are being developed for athletes county and region-wide, in association with the University of Warwick

NEW ATHLETES
Please forward to anyone you might think is interested!
Second-hand racing chairs will be available for new athletes to use and try until. These vary in age and size, and may need to be shared.

If possible please bring or borrow a cycle helmet. A small number are available to borrow. Wear suitable sports clothing, nothing too baggy, and waterproofs or change of clothes in case it rains.

After a period of sessions athletes wanting to enter races / train more regularly will be encouraged to seek funding for their own racing chair – second hand or custom-made.

Potential athletes are welcome irrespective of experience, standard or ambitions (i.e. road races or track). This applies to all ages 9/10yrs+, providing we have a chair of suitable size and a parent is present.

The sessions are open to athletes with a potential IPC wheelchair racing classification (i.e. spinal injury, cerebral palsy, lower – limb amputee).

For more information: IPC Classification Handbook This is due to the limited number of chairs and the costs of maintaining them etc.

Athletics classification and eligibility is very different to basketball and other wheelchair sports. Any questions, please ask.

TRACK FEES
Until October: £2.50 - Adults / £1.50 - U19

Please pay at reception before training.

Details for the British Wheelchair Racing Association can be found here

Asics Running Expert

Coventry Runner has been awarded ‘Asics Running Expert’ status by international sportswear giants Asics, joining a carefully selected, small group of retailers in the UK, judged to have the necessary product range, facilities, knowledge and customer service.

“Obviously we are delighted to be recognised as one of Asics’ premier retailers.” says owner Sandy Clisham, “To gain ‘Running Expert’ status we were challenged to meet a number of retail standards set by Asics and we believe that achieving these indicates that the shop is supplying quality products, good customer service and value for money.

“As an independent running specialist, Asics is just one of several brands that we offer and each one is slightly different in terms of functionality and technology. Our key expertise is in understanding and explaining the products and matching them to the individual needs of our customers.”

Coventry Runner is a former Godiva Award winner. Judging it as ‘Best New Venture’ in the 2007 awards, the judges made particular reference to the ‘outstanding levels of customer service’ demonstrated by the business.
